About

Trails

Whether you walk, hike or cycle, with over 1,000 kilometres of trail to explore, you’re in for an unforgettable adventure!  Trails hug stretches of beautiful, windswept shorelines and meander through diverse ecosystems and landscapes.  There’s terrain to match different skill levels, too, from easy and flat to challenging and rugged and everything in between. Check out the “Where to Hike” page to learn more and chart out your route BEFORE arriving to hike.

Hiking trails respectfully is easy with Grey County Tourism’s “Trail Etiquette” and the Bruce Trail’s “Bruce Trail 101". Stay on marked trails and if you pack it in, please pack it out. When parking, ensure you're in a designated parking area and note that fees may apply in some areas.

Before hiking any trail, make sure your cell phone is fully charged (note that cell service is not available in some hiking areas), pack some snacks and water. It's a good idea to download the "what3words" app, which can help emergency workers find you should you need medical assistance or rescue when hiking. Proper footwear is essential – hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes.  It’s also a good idea to dress in layers, especially if you start out early in the day.  Leave details of your planned hiking route and hiking time with someone so they know where you are, if necessary.

Paddling

The best views of BruceGreySimcoe may just be by water, taking in the spectacular scenery by canoe, kayak or stand up paddleboard (SUP).  These watery routes tell a story of our past, too, as they were first navigated by the area’s Indigenous people. They travelled by canoe to migrate seasonally and later used them to transport furs for trade.

BruceGreySimcoe is rich in river systems with several flowing into the deeper waters of Lake Huron, Georgian Bay and Lake Simcoe.  Prepare to be awestruck as you pass through towering, rocky bluffs, idyllic rural landscapes and thickly forested stretches.  More experienced paddlers can head for deeper waters to sea kayak along the Georgian Bay coastline, over sunken shipwrecks or out to an island.  Bonus – there’s plenty of wildlife to see as you travel these watery routes. Be sure to check out the Mandatory Gear required before you head out in canoe, kayak or on your stand up paddleboard (SUP).

Make it one of your best paddling experiences ever by planning ahead and consider booking a paddling adventure with one of our local outfitters. Note that rentals and equipment purchases may be in high demand during the summer months, so book early to avoid disappointment!
