More than 200 species of birds have been sighted here, including the black-crowned night heron and the American egret which find the wetlands in the park to be ideal feeding grounds. The shoreline is a recognized spring and fall migration route. MacGregor Point is either the northern or southern nesting limit for a number of northern and southern species. This festival has been developed to coincide with the arrival and the setting up of territories by these migrating birds. The park is really a 4 season destination, with great outdoor activities for winter as well, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, winter camping in a YURT, and you can go skating on an outdoor 400 m loop that is lit at night.
