This bustling city is just a short drive from the GTA but is surrounded with awesome recreational opportunities for visitors and residents alike. The city’s amazing waterfront is a hub of special events and activities—including watersports like wakeboarding, waterskiing, canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Last summer a floating playground was a popular new attraction. Spend the day along the water or head for the nearby hills to hike and bike at Horseshoe Resort or Hardwood Ski and Bike. The folks at Tourism Barrie have tons of information on planning your visit to Barrie on their website. The city is also blessed with great restaurants and craft breweries—including one of the original Ontario craft brewers—The Flying Monkeys Brewery! During the winter, the city is surrounded by great cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and snowboarding and snowtubing as well as ice-fishing in nearby Lake Simcoe. There’s lots to do in all four seasons here.
