From the GTA, it’s not too far a trip to experience the ultimate in winter experiences. And, Tourism Barrie makes it easy to plan your adventure with a visit to, a website dedicated to, you guessed it, winter fun in Barrie and area. Here, you’ll find everything you need – Stay & Play Packages, coupons, ski resorts, snow conditions, lessons and rentals and more!
For non-skiers, there are plenty of other options for outdoor fun – snow tubing, snowshoeing, ice fishing (check ice conditions before heading out), cross-country skiing and sleigh rides. Barrie Winterfest, held in early February, takes place on Barrie’s waterfront with events ranging from ice sculptures to dog sledding to axe throwing to the bone-chilling Polar Bear Dip.
Prefer to spend your winter indoors? The Simcoe County Museum, just a short drive from Barrie to Minesing, is open year-round, with exhibits, programs and events geared to all ages.  Chase away the winter blahs at the February Blues Festival, Barrie, in late January/early February.
And, for craft beer lovers, a visit to Barrie totally needs to include a visit to Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery, leader of the “Craft Beer Revolution”. Barrie is also home to the Redline Brewhouse and Barnstormer Brewing & Distilling Co.  In nearby Alliston is Beattie’s Distillers, where this family-run business grows its own potatoes to create its vodka, poitin (a traditional Irish distilled beverage) and gin, tours and tastings are available by appointment.  Prefer a glass of vino? Make Heritage Estate Winery & Cidery a stop on your visit to Barrie.
