Although the vines are dormant during the winter months, there’s no better time to savour the fruits of our local vineyards’ labours.  Award-winning whites, reds, rosés, winter wines and ciders just taste better on a cold winter’s day in front of a fire.  Pair up your favourite with a sampling of cheese and mmmm….Nirvana!  Leave the driving to the Beer Bus and the Brew Bus, which offer a variety of tours that include breweries and wineries in the South Georgian Bay area, Barrie, Orillia and other areas in the region.

Wineries

Sip and savour a delicious glass of wine at one of BruceGreySimcoe’s four wineries.  Book a tour and tasting, attend a special event or snowshoe through the vines before warming up in the tasting room to sample wine and goodies.  If you love craft cider, you’re in for a treat – most of these wineries produce their own cider, too.

What can we say?  We LOVE our beer!  The craft brewery industry is growing by leaps and bounds in BruceGreySimcoe.  No matter where you are in the region, you can enjoy a local brew at a restaurant, pub, a brewpub or the brewery itself.  Many of these are now available at the LCBO and can be ordered online, too.

Whisky, Gin & Vodka

 

With the crisp and fresh water of Georgian Bay as an ingredient, it’s no wonder the spirits produced here have a quintessential Canadian flavour, namely Canadian Mist and Collingwood Whisky.  The award-winning gin and vodka from the Georgian Bay Spirit Co. sources its water from Springwater Township.  Their two “smash” beverages – Georgian Bay Gin Smash and Georgian Bay Vodka Smash – are both refreshing and popular. Heretic Spirits, craft distillers of award-winning vodka and gin, are South Georgian Bay's first craft distillery. Find their products in their online store or in select LCBOs.
 
Beattie’s Distillers is a unique “farm to bottle” distillery, creating their Farm-Crafted Potato Vodka from their very own potatoes grown on their family farm in Alliston.  This family has been potato farmers for over 100 years and are the first craft distillery in Ontario to produce premium potato vodka.  Continually updating their product line, they have also created Sweet Potato Vodka, Strawberry Vodka, Blueberry & Lemongrass Vodka, Potato Gin and Poitin, an Irish-style potato moonshine. Distilling and bottling are done on-site.
