Wine, Beer, Cider & Spirits

Did you know that BruceGreySimcoe is listed as an emerging wine region in Ontario by Wine Country Ontario?  Not only do we have award-winning whites, reds and rosés, our craft brews, ciders and spirits are award winners too.
The Saints & Sinners:  Bootleggers Run pocket map neatly combines history with current day beverage production.  This handy little guide makes it easy to find, tour and taste craft breweries, wineries and cideries.  And, The Beer Bus and Ace Transportation Group do the driving on guided tours of the breweries, cideries and wineries in the South Georgian Bay area.  These tours are a fun outing for groups – think birthdays, wedding parties, corporate groups and other get togethers.

Savour the flavours of the wines of BruceGreySimcoe at one of a growing number of wineries, each with their own unique atmosphere and personality.  Tour a winery, enjoy a tasting experience with a group of friends, take in an event or just stop in to pick up a bottle or two to add to your wine collection.  At Hoity Toity Cellars, why not join in and help harvest the grapes this fall?  Traditional grape stomping included!

The craft brewery industry growth spurt continues in BruceGreySimcoe!  Right across the region, local breweries, pubs and local restaurants are serving up local brew. Many can now be purchased at the LCBO, too.

Several cideries in BruceGreySimcoe are conveniently located in Grey County’s “apple country”.  Found on restaurant menus around the region, these crisp and refreshing beverages all have one common ingredient – apples, either those they’ve grown or purchased locally or a combo of the two.  Several use heritage apples for a truly unique flavor.
Coffin Ridge Boutique Winery, Georgian Hills Vineyards and Hoity Toity Cellars also produce cider.

Whisky, Gin & Vodka

The cool, clear waters of Georgian Bay have been the inspiration behind the unique and truly Canadian taste of Canadian Mist and Collingwood Whisky, while water from Springwater Township is one of the base ingredients of Georgian Bay Spirit Co.’s gin and award-winning vodka.  Extremely refreshing and extremely popular are their two “smash” beverages– Georgian Bay Gin Smash and Georgian Bay Vodka Smash.
The Beattie family in Alliston have been potato farmers for over 100 years and now operate Beattie’s Distillers, a “Farm-to-Bottle” distillery, the first craft distillery in Ontario to produce premium potato vodka.  From growing the potatoes to distilling to bottling, it’s all done on site.  Tastings and tours are available, as well as a retail store.
All of the above are available at the LCBO – check your local store for availability or visit the LCBO website to order online.
