Activities
BruceGreySimcoe’s beautiful beaches and shorelines are ideal for water sports of all kinds. Fast becoming one of the most popular is stand up paddling boarding (SUP). You can take lessons and rent or buy a board from a local outfitter to get started (wearing a life jacket is recommended). Some of the best windsurfing and kiteboarding conditions in Ontario can be found here, too. Hotspots include Oliphant on Lake Huron and Northwinds Beach on Georgian Bay, with Wasaga Beach, Sauble Beach, Station Beach and Sunset Point Beach suitable with strong winds and gnarly waves. Surf’s up in Kincardine and Meaford for a new breed – surfers who love to hit the waters of the Great Lakes.
Not all beach activities are extreme or involve much physical exertion. Try some of the traditional beachin’ standbys: sandcastle building, sunning, reading, strolling the shore, collecting washed up treasure and splashing in the cooling waters. Make sure you have (and wear) sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses as protection from the sun’s warm rays. Planning to stay for awhile? Set up a bright beach umbrella or shelter to enjoy those lake breezes from the comfort of the shade.
