Beach Towns
BruceGreySimcoe’s beach towns are hopping during the warm weather! So, it's a good idea to plan ahead and book ahead this summer to make the most of your beach escape - book a stay of several days or longer. Or, if you can, visit the beach mid-week or late spring and early fall, when things are a bit quieter, the weather is still warm and the water is just as beautiful.
Wasaga Beach
The bustling Town of Wasaga Beach is home to 14 kilometres of beautiful white sandy shoreline at the southern end of Georgian Bay. And, as trivia buffs know, it’s the world’s longest freshwater beach. This high-energy resort town is a fun and sun seeker’s mecca, with activities and events for all ages.
The beach itself is part of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and is divided into eight sections, Beach Areas 1 to 6, plus New Wasaga Beach and Allenwood Beach. Wasaga Beach Area 1 is the only provincial park in Ontario to receive a Blue Flag designation. Each have their own facilities, including washrooms, parking and more. Beach Area 1 is just steps from the town itself, with retail shops, restaurants, cafes, entertainment, hotels, attractions and many special events.
Located within the park is the Visitor Centre, which is also the entrance to the Nancy Island Historic Site, dedicated to a specific battle during the War of 1812. Spend a day out of the sun touring the museum, theatre, and replica Great Lakes lighthouse.
Sauble Beach
Trivia buffs probably already know this, too – Sauble Beach is the second-longest freshwater beach in the world. With 11 kilometres of pristine, golden sand and shallow waters on the eastern shore of Lake Huron, this shoreline is home to some pretty spectacular sunsets. Dusk is the perfect time for an evening stroll or dip to catch the vibrant rays.
The community’s iconic arch marks the water’s edge of the funky strip, filled with great shopping, dining and activities. One of the most popular summer events is Sandfest in early August, with amazing sand sculptures dotting the shoreline a highlight of the event.
More Sauble Beach trivia: Kurtis MacDermid, an NHL player of the 2022 Stanley Cup winning Colorado Avalanche, is from Sauble beach and celebrated the win with a parade and beach party in his home community.
