Fat Biking
This fun - and sometimes challenging! - activity has definitely continued to grow across BruceGreySimcoe with more trails dedicated to fat biking and rentals available at some operators, like
Hardwood Ski & Bike (note that they have to be booked in advance and online). Visit their
website to learn more and to book your tour. Other fat biking trails, rentals and adventures can be found at
Horseshoe Resort, the
Wasaga Nordic and Trail Centre and
Highlands Nordic.
Ice Fishing
Without a doubt, the best ice fishing in Ontario is on Lake Simcoe. Perch, lake trout and whitefish are just a few of the species waiting to be lured up from beneath the ice. Outfitters can help set you up with ice hut and equipment rentals. It’s a great pastime for families, groups of guys and gals or just on your own. For safety reasons, always check ice conditions with a local outfitter or operator before venturing onto the ice to fish. Better yet, book your adventure with an outfitter and let them take care of all the details!
Winter Hiking
Join one of the local Bruce Trail clubs for a winter hike on the iconic and scenically beautiful Bruce Trail. The many clubs of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association have scheduled hikes, too, with designated meeting places. Dress for the weather and check weather conditions and forecasts before heading out on the trails.
Snowshoeing and Cross-Country Skiing
Take your winter hiking experience up a notch by strapping on snowshoes or cross-country skis to explore the winter beauty and magic of BruceGreySimcoe on either groomed or ungroomed trails, your choice! Check out more info on our Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing page. Make it a truly unique experience and book a guided tour with Bruce Peninsula Eco Adventures.
Horse Drawn Sleigh & Wagon Rides
Jingle all the way on a horse-drawn sleigh ride or wagon ride through the sparkling snow, a great excursion with family or a group of friends.
Tubing & Ice Skating
No skill required to be pulled up the hill and then slide down in a cushy inflatable tube! This is an awesome outdoor activity for families and groups. Try it out at Snow Valley, Horseshoe Resort and Blue Mountain Resort.
Skate the old-fashioned way – outside! Twirl and glide at MacGregor Point Provincial Park - learn more about the park's ice skating rail, which is lit up at night, by reading "Winter Adventures at MacGregor Point Park". Follow the icy trail at Fern Resort or the Woodview Mountaintop Skating loop at the top of Blue Mountain. The Simcoe County Museum's Skate Trail runs around the heritage buildings, historic equipment displays and through the trees. Frosty night skates are just magical under the stars and lights. No skates? Not a problem – rentals available at some locations.
Snowmobiling
Tour some of Ontario’s best snowmobile trails in District 9 this cold weather season. BruceGreySimcoe’s extensive system of groomed snowmobile trails run seamlessly across the region and back again (check ahead for route changes and alterations in 2021/22 sledding season) – perfect for daytrips and longer tours. Trails wind through scenic vistas, expanses of sparkling farmland and snowy forests. Orillia alone has almost 300 kilometres of groomed and signed trails, maintained by the Orillia District Snowmobile Club, just one of many volunteer organizations across the region. Be sure to check trail conditions before heading out. Trail permits are required, so visit the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) website to purchase online.
